An unexpected expatriate blogger behind Dirosa Ven Ulu

Hello, I’m Sophie
I work as a project manager, am a parent, and I’m an expatriate currently residing in Lyon, France.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to France wasn't part of our long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more challenging than they ought to.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Dirosa Ven Ulu
Most information online leaned toward corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in France.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on insights from living in France
- Centered on family routines and daily realities
- Updated whenever meaningful changes occur
This site ISN'T:
- An official tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- A general travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in France goes on, and so does the learning curve. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue recording what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Lyon or anywhere in France, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sophie
